Spot News:
The of entries was thin.

First Place: A great moment and layering. The woman running toward the photographer gives it a sense of urgency.

Second Place: Had good light , moment and composition.

Third Place: Had peak action. Nice response time to a car fire.

General News:
This was the strongest category and generated the most debate. Many nice photos in this category.

First place: Wonderful moment with great layers. There is a lot going on all at once terrific emotion.

Second Place: Sensitive treatment of a difficult situation.

Third place: We like the emotion, the layering and the dog tags in her hand.
Again a sensitive moment.

Sports:
The winning entries really stood from the group.

First Place: This is a photo we have not really seen before. The photographer took a huge risk by hanging out by the net in the 96th minute of the game.

Second Place: I love the moment and form. Great jubilation.

Third Place: Tough shot to get in diving, and its tack sharp.

Feature Single:
We would of liked to have seen more creative angles, situations and
cleaner backgrounds.

First Place: Nice mood and quality of light. There is something very nostalgic about the photo. We wish it had more cut line information.

Second Place: Good moment in a technically difficult situation.

Third Place: A good humor take on a kite flying photo.

Feature Story:
There were not any compelling , in-depth stories, most entries were tied
to an event.

First Place: We liked the untraditional cropping of the photos. Nice effort in going backstage as well. Good variety of shots.

Second Place: Nice moments, good color and layering. It would have been nice for the photographer to look for story-elements other than repeatedly incorporating the flag.

Third Place: We liked the different situations at the rodeo. A tighter edit would have made for a stronger package. The cut lines needed much more information and description as well.

Nice Shooting People,

Ken
