Spot News:
First place was a unique angle to give a sense of place and urgency that made
this the clear winners.
Second Place was one of the few photos in the category that had any
emotion at all.
Third place was one of many fire photos but actually showed firemen working.
General News:
First place of the reflection was nifty. We liked that it allowed so many more funeral goers Êto be seen and added another dimension to the photo.
Second place when the photographer really knew how to work a funeral.
Really get a sense that this death affected a lot of people.
Third place was a monochromatic sense leads you to the most important elements....The helmet and the boy's face. Very nice moment.
Sports:
First place is not something you get at every football game. We could not tell if the player on the right was getting kicked in the head, but we love it either way.
Second place had all the elements of that tells the story, action, emotion, the puck in the net.
Third place was one of many tennis shots entered, this one stood out because of the success of the exposure and the end result, a cool backlit scene.
Feature Single:
First place was just a cool shot. Shallow depth of field included the hoard of pigeons around the man.
Second place was also a very cool shot. The use of the hand railing in dividing the photo in half was very successful creative device.
Third place had a simple clean back ground that really added to what would otherwise have been just another feature of guy doing chores outside.
Feature Story:
Overall a very weak category.
First place had many tight shots of a really interesting subject
Second place a "pretty" essay that could of been more cohesive. Some strong image but Êvery weak supporting images.
Third place was a nice clean simple shots of documenting the changes in life as one ages.
Illustration:
First place showed a lot of Êeffort that went into this series of photos.
Second place: Well-lit food shot from a high angle that keeps the image simple and the viewer focused on the food.
Third place was well-kit portrait that fall into the nice image , it works category.
Nice Shooting
