Spot News:
Not really the strongest of the categories. Out of the group of
entries in this category we chose these three as the winners.
First Place: Because it was a nice tight shot, good action, nice light and an interesting interplay between the water spray, flames and smoke.
Second Place: This was a decent spot news situation, on an given day we thought anyone of us would of probably be pretty thrilled to get a shot of an emergency rescue like this.
Third Place: Nice tight shot , again, not a bad rescue situation on your
average day.
General News:
This category as a whole was not bad, but nothing really stood out as
amazing. The three that rose to the top.
First place: This was an interesting picture of a fairly average event. We felt the photographer really worked this one. Nicely composed, good lines and great angle.
Second place: A nice moment well composed good light and obviously the photographer remained the "fly on the wall" during a solemn event.
Third place: This was a sad yet beautiful moment, intense facial expressions, nice tight shot of a surviving mother and daughters as they continue to grieve.
Sports:
Fairly average photos.
First place: This was a good tight shot of the crunch at the goal post, some what of a different hockey moment.
Second place: The faces made the shot for us. Nicely composed,
great athleticism.
Third place: The bottom line on this photo is it funny. The look of trepidation
is priceless.
Feature Single:
Once more, nothing really stood out as above average in this category.
First place: This had beautiful color, nice composition, wonderful contrast of the
silhouette against the autumnal surrounding.
Second place: Good saluted moment of antigravity. Third place was the facial expression of the kid and her look of winged flight under water.
Feature Story:
Definitely the strongest of all the categories:
First place: This was a wonderful homage to the restoration of a beautiful building. Nice light, subtle color and great composition.
Second place: This was a fairly average underwater fare, but two shots stood out as aesthetic and different.
Third place: The one shot of the man pumpkins reflected in his glasses made
this peace.
Nice shooting
